Ghost Dog, what is it about?

At the crossroads of underground cultures

Made in 1999, ghost dog is a film by Jim Jarmusch, this important figure in the American independent cinema to which we owe in particular works as much cult as Stranger than heaven, Mother deadnor more recently, The dead don’t die.

Personally, ghost dog and my favorite Jarmusch but also one of the films that inspired me love for cinema. It is a true ode to African American culturebrought to RZA’s soundtrack from Wu Tang Clan (who we regularly find at the top of the best rap groups in history.)

Probably Forest Whitaker’s greatest role

It’s hard to believe when you haven’t seen the movie, and yet, ghost dog through the universe of the film on the mafia with that of hip-hop and… the samurai. A wholly improbable mixture which nonetheless takes on all its meaning in front of Jarmusch’s lens and translates into a work as fascinating as sensitive, poetic and visceral.

There is an endless melancholy and nostalgia in the main character played by Forest Whitaker, this absolutely brilliant actor with a sad look who signs here one of his most complex roles. the ghost dog is a hitman employed by a gang of mobsters…And yet it demonstrates a extremely strict moral sense. The character is almost mute, however, it exudes an emotional and tragic force that leaves no one indifferent.
