“Black Adam” is not in James Gunn’s near-future plans for DC, according to Dwayne Johnson

After speaking with James Gunn about the future of the DC Universe, the actor writes it “‘Black Adam’ will not be in the first chapter of the story”which is definitely a disappointment to both him and his fans, which he says he has “very thick skin” and that he can always be trusted to tell you things frankly. “James and I have known each other for years and have always backed each other up to win. It’s no different now.”. As established, it’s a decision that “represents their creative vision of the DC Universe”.

That shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering its diminished box office success and that the news comes after learning that Henry Cavill is no longer Superman, even though The Rock has made an effort to bring that back into his film. Despite the bang, Johnson ends the message filled with gratitude: “After fifteen years of hard and relentless work to finally make ‘Black Adam’, I am very proud of the film that we have delivered to fans around the world. I will always remember the fan reaction to “Black Adam” with tremendous gratitude, humility and love.”. To his fans, he reminds them: “I love you, THANK YOU, and I WILL ALWAYS LISTEN and do my best to honor and entertain you”.

While we won’t be seeing Teth Adam again in the near future, it seems Johnson’s character is still in the studio’s plans. “DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways to use Black Adam in future chapters of the DC multiverse.”. Gunn himself confirms the door isn’t closed to include the character in more projects and quoted Johnson’s tweet, replying “I can’t wait to see what he [Dwayne Johnson] and Seven Bucks will do next. I look forward to telling you more soon”.

Coming soon… Marvel?

In his emotional message, Dwayne Johnson did not hesitate to also include the Marvel studio: “I will always support DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIGThis could also pave the way for a possible collaboration with them, especially considering that Kevin Feige has already announced that he would be in favor of the job: “I wish he was part of the Marvel universe one day”he said in an interview with Collider nearly a decade ago. “His name has come up in the past. I’m a huge fan, I think he’s great”. Apparently, he is not only enthusiastic about his work, but also about his personality. “I don’t really know him, but I think he has an amazing personality and he’s kind of a force of nature. He’s amazing in ‘Pain and Money’, he was amazing in ‘GI Joe’, he’s really an amazing human being. His Twitter is always cool and he promotes everything he does like fucking shit”. Looking at it this way, it seems that Johnson’s future in the world of superheroes is far from over.
