Elon Musk is putting his future as Twitter CEO in the hands of the platform’s users. The owner of the social network created a poll in which he was asked whether he should remain at the helm of the company.
“Should I step down as Twitter boss? I will abide by the results of this poll,” he tweeted.
At the time of writing, the poll had more than 3 million votes, with “yes” leading 57% to 42%. With just over 11 hours to go before the poll closes, if the results stand as they are, Twitter users will oust Musk from his current position.

Musk has honored the results of his Twitter polls in the past, restoring Donald Trump to the platform and lifting the ban on suspended journalists earlier this week.
After his latest poll, Musk warned his followers to “be careful what you ask for, as you may get it.”

Musk is talking to his supporters and some have suggested he hire someone to run the social media platform. The Tesla owner responded to a user that “the question isn’t finding a CEO, it’s finding a CEO who can keep Twitter alive.”

Another user suggested that Musk let him drive for free on Twitter, to which the first replied: “You must really love pain. One caveat: you have to invest your savings in Twitter and it’s been headed for bankruptcy since May, do you still want the job?

Musk also responded to a user who suggested he had already “picked a new CEO.”
“No one wants the job that can actually keep Twitter alive. There is no successor,” Musk said.

The recent controversy surrounding Twitter comes as a new policy went into effect today banning links from promoting other social networks such as Instagram, Facebook and Mastodon. However, Musk has changed the policy and will only ban accounts if their “primary purpose is to promote competitors” after user outcry.
The policy is only changed to ban accounts when that account’s *primary* purpose is to promote competitors, which is effectively covered by the no-spam rule
