A British pensioner arrested in Spain on charges of murdering his wife has told police she fell and hit her head on a curb after getting out of her car.
The 69-year-old man, whose identity has not been released, was arrested on Sunday and charged with beating his 56-year-old wife outside their home in Spain’s southeastern Mazarron region early this morning.
Local officials described the case as “gender-based violence” and revealed that the woman had reported her husband to the police several times between 2007 and 2014, but he claimed that he was not responsible for her death.
He appeared in court yesterday where a judge ruled that he must remain in custody while the crime is investigated.
