Ana Cabrera, Anchors CNN newsroom on weekdays at 1 p.m. ET, is expected to leave the network, with sources saying she is eyeing a new role at NBCUniversal.
Her expected departure was not part of the major layoffs announced by CNN this week, according to a source. Spokesmen for CNN and NBC News declined to comment.
Cabrera joined CNN in Denver in 2013 before anchoring CNN Newsroom. Previously, she was an anchor for WGMH-TV, ABC’s Denver affiliate, and was an anchor and reporter for NBC and Fox affiliates in Spokane, WA.
NBC News recently signed on additional CNN staffers, including Laura Jarrett, who will cover the Justice Department and Supreme Court starting in January, and Ryan Nobles, who moved to cover Capitol Hill in October. David Gelles was also named the new executive producer of Meet the Press in August, and talent manager Rebecca Kutler joined MSNBC in September. Puck News was the first to report Cabrera’s proposed move.
