Elon Musk sets new start date for Twitter’s paid verification system

Elon Musk has confirmed that his new paid Twitter comment box system is “expected” to roll out for the second time next Friday, December 2.

Musk said Friday that accounts for businesses, government officials and entities and individuals will be marked with different colors — “gold check for businesses, gray check for governments, bluer for individuals (celebrity or not), and all verified accounts are manually pre- verified.” the check has been activated.”

The tech billionaire added that the change in Twitter’s identity verification strategy is “painful but necessary” – adding that “all verified individuals will have the same blue check mark as the line of what is ‘notable’ is different.” is too subjective.

From now on, individuals can request not only their own blue tick, but also “a secondary small logo” that confirms their affiliation with an organization when verified by that organization. (“Fuller explanation next week,” Musk tweeted.)

A final point that Musk reiterated today is that “willful impersonation/fraud” will be quickly addressed through account suspension. “Organization affiliation, bio, and follower count distinguish between people who really have the exact same name,” he said. “We’ll see how it goes.”

Musk first unveiled his $8-a-month subscription to Twitter Verification earlier this month, though he discontinued it on Nov. 11 after seeing that the paid system allowed the creation of fake accounts.

Musk spoke of Twitter’s paid program as a move away from a “lords and peasants” system on the platform that would democratize the verification tool for its users. Still, his decision to demand payment for a previously free resource was quickly condemned after the announcement by notable figures from US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to author Stephen King and actor Mark Ruffalo.

“Elon. Please – for the sake of decency – leave Twitter, give the keys to someone who does this as a real job and continue to run Tesla and SpaceX,” the latter wrote.

Musk’s comments on reinstating the paid program are below.
