Police are looking for a University of Virginia student Christopher Darnell-Jones, suspected of killing three people and wounding two others during a shooting at a school campus in Charlottesville on the night of Nov. 13. The school is under lockdown with the suspect on the run, according to police and the university president. “Law enforcement teams are conducting a thorough search of the UA grounds,” the UVA Police Department said. tweeted on November 14th. “Remain in place until further notice.”

The police department’s Twitter account first alerted students to the shooting at 10:31 p.m. local time on Nov. 13. Students have been advised to avoid the area. A hospitalization at the scene was announced shortly after, and police confirmed that the suspect was considered “armed and dangerous”. Police confirmed the suspect was a “black male, wearing a burgundy jacket, blue jeans and red shoes”. They also confirmed the suspect was driving a black SUV with Virginia registration plates TWX3580. Christopher Darnell Jones was officially named a suspect at 12.37pm on Nov. 14 and police shared a photo and asked witnesses to call 911 if they saw him.
Authorities have yet to identify the victims and have not confirmed whether or not they are students. “I am devastated that this violence has affected the University of Virginia,” said university president Jim Ryna, tweeted🇧🇷 “This is a traumatic incident for everyone in our community and we have canceled classes for today (Monday November 14th).” He concluded his message: “Today I hold the victims, their families and all members of the University of Virginia community in my heart and will make plans to bring us together as a grieving community once the suspect is apprehended.”
UVA students received an email on the morning of November 14 urging them to take the shelter-in-place orders seriously. “Suspicion remains active,” student affairs director Robyn Hadley said. he wrote🇧🇷 “The suspect is armed and dangerous. If you’re not inside and safe, he immediately seeks protection.”
