HBO turns 50 this week, so Variety has ranked the 50 best roles in HBO history, and here are the top five. The list only includes roles from dramas, comedies, and limited series that are no longer airing.
HBO is the oldest subscription television service in the United States. Over the past 50 years, HBO has produced some of the best television work with some of Hollywood’s biggest names.
James Gandolfini, who played Tony Soprano in The Sopranos, took first place, while Carrie Coon and her character Nora Durst in The Leftovers took second place. Third place – Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who played Selina Mayer in “Vice President.” Michael Kenneth Williams, who played Omar Little from The Wire, took fourth place, while Peter Dinklage, who played Tyrion Lannister from Game of Thrones, placed fifth.
