Between July and September, Russians traveled abroad 9.7 million times, almost double the previous three months, when the number equaled 5 million, and 1.2 million more than in the same period in 2021. This information is transmitted by RBC with reference to the Federal Security Service.

The number of Russian departures to Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Mongolia and Abkhazia between July and September was a record for five years. About 70% of all trips were to Abkhazia – 2.5 million, Turkey – 2.1 million, Kazakhstan – 1.3 million, to Georgia and Finland about 460 thousand and 430 thousand, respectively.
The number of Russian exits to Kazakhstan has become the largest since at least 2018. For 1.2 million of the total trips, the purpose of travel is specific, tourism is listed only 37,000 times.
The total number of trips exceeds last year’s figures for the same period, but not pre-pandemic 2019, when 16.1 million trips were recorded.
