The announcement of their marriage made around the world in a few days yet it is a safe bet that many of us had never heard of it (unless we were really very well informed about the news of the beauty pageants).
One is Miss Puerto Rico 2020, the other is Miss Argentina 2019, and they both got married on October 28th. Mariana Varela and Fabiola Valentin’s wedding announcement is all over the media for a pretty neat reason: the two beauty queens met while competing in the 2020 edition of the Miss Grand International beauty pageant which was held in Thailand in March 2021.
I don’t know if you have a writer inside you, but here it is a true Netflix romantic comedy (funny as well as forgettable) who just wrote in my head with love at first sight on stage, flirting in the dressing rooms, a former mercenary who gets involved and an all-is-good-that-ends-well in apotheosis.
Two “very good friends” (wink)
What is interesting in this story is that traveling the world, this marriage worthy of a lesbian fairy tale it was presented as the lifting of a secret.
“After deciding to keep our relationship private, we open our doors for a special day”, we can read on Fabiola Valentin’s Instagram account. It is true that the two women had not explained their relationship until the announcement of this marriage.
But you just have to go back to their respective Instagram accounts to see it everything was already under the eyes of their tens of thousands of followers : Mariana Varela and Fabiola Valentin, always together on vacation, glued shoulder to shoulder on a red carpet, languid sipping a cocktail or playing volleyball on the beach.
“How lucky I am to have someone like you in my life, I LOVE YOU Mariana” posted Fabiola Valentin in the caption of a video of all their moments spent together during the year 2021.
It’s very simple: Mariana Varela and Fabiola Valentin have undergone this almost universal recklessness which consists in imagining that two close women cannot be what good friends. Great friends with close friends, or roommates, just two very, very intimate women, who save some money by sharing not only the same room, but the same bed as well. Why why not.

We can also assume that their Miss status allows them to tick almost all the boxes of the traditional canons of femininity, also excluded them from the “lesbian” category in the collective imagination. An observation that is not only lazy, and that denies the existence of all women on this planet.
It is being a beauty queen and falling in love with a woman often seen as a possible option in the minds of many people? Hence, it is impossible to see or even predict it these two were something other than best friends very accomplices, regardless of how they personally define themselves in terms of sexual orientation.
This could be further proofin 2022 we still have a superpower when we are lesbians, that of being undetectableeven invisible to heterosexuals, even if in the process of slaving away before their eyes.
