The total sporty look, the new fashion obsession

The tracksuit is a universal uniform that invites us to be comfortable and that is also a trend currently. The luxury houses have reinvented themselves on their catwalks and it’s back to take us to the two thousand again. This set is known worldwide, although they call it differently in every place, in other Spanish speaking countries they say to jog (Argentina), monkey (Venezuela) or field output (Chile).

The brand that designed the tracksuit as we know it today was Adidas in 1967, which presented a set of jacket and pants with the iconic three stripes. One of the first moments of fame of this garment was then: in the 70s, when Bruce Lee wore a red jacket and pants model on the tv show long street, it was the first time this garment appeared on the American screen. Later, the same actor premiered the film game of deathin which he appears with a yellow design with black stripes, which inspired that of Uma Thurman in Kill Bill.

It was closely associated with the aesthetics of hip-hop in the United States. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, a new urban culture began in the Bronx directly related to hip-hop, the world of graffiti and breakdance, the people who were part of it were called B-boy. These street performers had a strong aesthetic that consisted of wearing Kangol hats, chunky gold chains, sneakers and… track jackets or leather, they usually used brands such as: Le Coq Sportif, Adidas or Pro-Keds and other luxuries such as Louis Vuitton, Fendi or Gucci.

In the 1990s and 2000s, it was already fully incorporated into clothing and was a trend worn by celebrities like Madonna, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan or Jennifer Lopez. Over the years, it has become a vintage aesthetic that companies use as inspiration and reinterpretation, bringing this outfit to the catwalks and moving away from its mere sporty connotation. In this way it has become a recurring style that does not necessarily have to be linked to sports.

Currently the triumph of the athleisure trend (union of athletic with leisure, it is the combination of athletic with leisure) It has been promoted by designers such as Demna Gvasalia at Balenciaga or Virgil Abloh at Off-White.two of the most important brands in the world that are revolutionizing the streetwear and turn the tracksuit into a luxury garment.

In the latest collections from houses like Balenciaga, Tom Ford and Gucci (who has partnered with Adidas) we’ve seen vintage yet avant-garde suggestions fueled by sportswear. The tracksuit has also resurfaced thanks to celebrities like Hailey Bieber, Rosalia, Bella Hadid, Emily Ratajkowskiwho wear it with great style in their daily life and in photos of the Street Style with this garment.
