Okko online cinema has launched the Sports Capitals documentary series, created with the support of the Internet Development Institute (IRI), about the most Olympic cities in Russia, from Sochi and Krasnodar to Makhachkala and Khanty-Mansiysk. And this is the first project in Runet, which provides indisputable evidence that the city has the national status of the capital of Olympic sports.
The audience will travel with the heroes to the most iconic training locations and bases, see the rehabilitation centers from the inside, and talk to the coaches who prepare the champions. And Alexey Stolyarov, one of the most popular sports video bloggers in the country, became the host of the project!
Each of the six episodes will introduce the city to audiences with its national status as the capital of Olympic sports, where people from all over the country come to sail, mastering the tricks of BMX freestyle or the intricacies of martial arts. And the journey will start from Krasnodar, where in 2013 the first professional complex XSA “Education Park” was built in Russia, which has become a favorite place for street riders and is still considered the best skate park in the country.
“Thanks to this site, our guys have made a lot of progress and now they compete in all competitions right up to the Olympics. They train for 10-15 years,” says Alexander Belevsky, the coach of future champions. His colleague Sergey Simkin shares some interesting statistics: 80-90% of BMX freestyle followers in Krasnodar are from Chelyabinsk, Maykop, Moscow, Kaliningrad and other cities. Among the reasons for the move is his dream of becoming an Olympic champion.
“Since 2019, BMX has become an Olympic sport and many of us train to go to the Olympics. My team and I are doing everything to get there,” says, for example, a member of the Russian BMX freestyle team Roman Gilimzyanov.
