Fondation Louis Vuitton Exhibition


The French authorities will confiscate the painting “Grey Self-Portrait” by Pyotr Konchalovsky by the sanctioned Russian billionaire Pyotr Aven – this was reported by the newspaper Le Monde on April 9.

The painting is on loan to the French Fondation Louis Vuitton for the “Icons Contemporary Art” exhibition held in Paris from September 22, 2021 to April 3, 2022.

The newspaper also reported that the issue of the seizure of another painting from the collection of Mikhail and Ivan Morozov, a portrait of businessman Timofey Morozov by Valentin Serov, was discussed. At the exhibition was presented by the Moscow Avant-Garde Art Museum, created by businessman Vyacheslav Kantor – he was also on the sanctions list.

However, later on the telegraph channel “Edition” it was clarified that the portrait of Morozov will still be returned to Russia, and the remaining paintings from the collection (there are about 200 of them), including the works of Gauguin, Renoir. Matisse and Van Gogh.

Meanwhile, the Russian embassy in Paris has not confirmed the detention of any of the paintings.

The fact that the fate of the paintings brought to the exhibition is being determined in France was written in early April by the telegram channel “Ku-ku”, run by art critic Ksenia Korobeynikova.

It was previously known that exhibits from the Hermitage and Tretyakov Gallery collections came to Russia, participated in an exhibition in Italy, and were detained on the way back by Finnish customs officers as a “cargo sanction”.
