A study published in Bloomberg magazine reveals that childless single women amassed more wealth than their male counterparts in 2019. Unsurprisingly, single mothers are the least wealthy.
Single women without children are the richest
More and more women are choosing not to have children. It is now estimated that 44% of Americans between the ages of 18 and 45 have no intention of reproducing. If the reasons for this choice are different, there is a clear economic advantage for those who are neither a mother nor a couple.
The American study tells us that in 2019 single women without children held an average capital of 65,000 dollars (about 65,280 euros) against the 57,000 dollars (about 57,240 euros) of their male colleagues. Single men with children also did very well with $ 59,000 behind them. Unsurprisingly, single mothers with children are far behind, as their wealth amounts to just $ 7,000.
Motherhood, this burden that weighs on professional life
This study illustrates well the phenomenon of the maternity penalty. With each new child, a mother is estimated to lose up to 15% of her income.
