David Simonsen joins Amazon as the director of Prime Video, Southeast Asia

David Simonsen joins Amazon in his new role as Head of Premier Video for Southeast Asia. He will be based in Singapore and will start work on Monday 5th September.

As Director of Premier Video, Southeast Asia, Simonsen will be responsible for Premier Video’s marketing and commercial activities in the region, with a focus on Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.

Simonsen has 25 years of media experience, including 21 in Singapore with ESPN Star Sports and HBO Asia / Warner Media.

Prior to joining Amazon Prime Video, David spent 14 years at HBO Asia / Warner Media as senior vice president of business and business development, parenting network, strategy and digital and business development in 23 Asian territories.

In 2018-2019, Simonsen led the development of HBO Asia’s direct-to-consumer SVOD strategy, expanding HBO GO from a linear retrieval service in Hong Kong and the Philippines to a direct-to-consumer service in 8 regional markets.

Simonsen is a New Zealand citizen and holds a BA in Communications from Auckland University of Technology.
