Milestone Moment with ‘Monica’ Star Trail Lysette’s Venice Premiere This Weekend

Trace Lisette arrives in Venice for the premiere of the drama directed by Andrea Palaoro monicaIt was here that she learned that she was the first trans actress to make headlines in a competition movie. Lisette plays the main character, a trans woman who comes home to take care of her mother, who rejected her years ago. The young woman has many personal problems to solve, but the most frustrating is her mother’s mental capacity. (Patricia Clarkson) her health is deteriorating. She doesn’t know her son, and Monica goes to great lengths to bond as her caregiver. Lysette was a regular in the Amazon series. TransparentHe co-starred with Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu. scammers. But this is her first lead role in a movie. We met at the Disruptors party hosted by Deadline, Thelios and Guillotine Vodka at the Excelsior Hotel. Clearly, setting landmarks in Venice is not something Lisette takes lightly.

DEADLINE: When Monica hits theaters this weekend, it was rumored that you would be the first trans actress to play in Venice’s main pageant. what does this mean for you?

LIST: I control everything. This title has been removed. [this week] So I asked, and now I’m working on it. Hopefully this will mean more open doors for trans people in world cinema and feature films in general. I feel like there’s a lot of shortcomings… there are rooms we don’t go into and it’s weird that we’re directing the movie. It means a lot to me personally, but it also means a lot to society. Hopefully.

Deadline: How did you get into this room? How did you get this role?

LIST: This happened in December 2016. They sent me the script, I read it and I liked it. I met Monica. Shortly after that, I started auditioning and toured a few times. I just fought for it. It took some time to find funding, six years. It slowly boiled over but there was a lot of passion and love in the movie and I hope it shows on screen too.

DEADLINE: The movie is based on universal elements, the desire to love and belong to your family. Monica could have been any girl who had been sent back to care for her dying mother, who had rejected him and whose health and memory had weakened. The moments between mother and daughter are touching. What was the challenge of working with Patricia Clarkson?

LIST: Working with Patricia was a wonderful gift. We feel this family bond immediately. All the layers Monica had to deal with, the loss of her mother’s memory, and the difficult and unprecedented transformation she went through over the years was just too much. She was just trying to give grace to her mother and family while she took care of herself. That’s what he always had to do, take care of yourself.

DEADLINE: There is a time when Monica tells her brother that her mother dropped her off at the bus stop, says I will no longer be your mother, and stops talking about it. Were these items purely fiction, or were they based on a collection of people who had endured this pain?

LIST: Unfortunately, fighting with our biological families is very typical in the trans community. I cry for my trans brothers and sisters who had to go through this. Luckily, the time my mom and I worked things out on the rocks, separately or whatever you call it, was much shorter than Monica’s time with her mom. I appreciate my mother. He had the courage to question the beliefs that society and religion instilled in him. And he defeated them because of his love for me, his son. I hope my mom can be an example to other parents who are going through this inner struggle… This is a very controversial topic and it’s hard for me to talk about it. I love my mom very much and want to celebrate her during our stay together. I guess Monica has a similar journey.

DEADLINE: The end is quite moving and there is a feeling of closure and family being restored. I thought that if you’re an actress in a movie, you don’t need to be defined by gender if you want to. But because you’re an outspoken advocate for the trans community, with this film you may have the opportunity to be a role model for the young people who walk through your life and struggle to feel comfortable in their own skin. where are you going from here

LIST: I have another independent film made last year, drug queensAnd we hope it will be at the festival soon. I have the main supporting role in it, but beyond that I’m still trying to figure out what’s next. I hope this shakes things up a bit.
