The number of Covid-19 infections among Google workers in the Los Angeles area nearly doubled over the weekend, according to an official website tally of the country’s workplace Covid outbreak.
Deadline reported Friday that the tech giant’s state-of-the-art campus of Silicon Beach in Venice has reported 145 infections. This morning, the Los Angeles County Board of Public Health reported another 135 new cases at the company’s huge Playa Vista complex. (On Friday, another 15 infections were listed for the Venice campus, no longer visible today.)
Together, these 280 infections represent the largest current tally for any employer in the country.
274 TSA employees at LAX are infected. In addition, 234 American Airlines employees. However, these entities are not only customer oriented, but they probably handle the largest foot traffic in the country.
Google has 2,000 employees in Los Angeles reported last year by the Los Angeles Business Journal. If this is true, it means that 14% of the company’s workforce has recently been affected.

The state of the epidemic on Google is difficult to say. Deadline has reached out to the tech giant and will add any feedback received. There may be a delay between detection and reporting of an infection and when the county bulletin board finally reports that number, but the LADPH site is updated daily and does not include the Hercules campus blast on Friday.
