Mike Tyson Gets A Jab On Hulu Ahead of ‘Mike’ Series Premiere: “They Stole My Life Story And Didn’t Pay Me”

Mike Tyson took to social media to meet Hulu Miguel, a series about his life. The former boxer is unhappy that the streaming service produced the biopic without his permission or compensation for his story.

“Don’t let Hulu fool you. I don’t support your biography. It’s not 1822, it’s 2022,” Tyson said. Instagram. “They stole the story of my life and didn’t pay me. According to Hulu executives, I’m just someone they can sell on the auction block.

In a social media post, Tyson wrote, “Hulu is the streaming version of Slave Master. They stole my story and didn’t pay me.”

Tyson’s latest post comes after he made another post on the same social media platform praising UFC president Dana White for allegedly refusing to promote the Hulu series.

“Hulu desperately tried to pay my brother @danawhite millions without offering me a dollar to help the slave master talk about my life,” Tyson said in a release statement. Instagram. “He refused because he respected friendship and treated people with dignity. I will never forget what you did for me, just as I will never forget what Hulu stole from me.”

At a panel Thursday on Hulu’s Television Critics Tour, showrunner Karen Gist spoke about the unauthorized nature of the project. “We just wanted to tell an unbiased story and let the audience decide what they think or feel,” Gist said. “I challenge what people think they know about Mike, and I hope they’ll think of something other than the show. Like it or hate it, the story makes you question how complicit the community is. That was the intention, that was the north star of the writers room when we were crafting the stories.

It wasn’t the first time the heavyweight champion had criticized Hulu for a biopic series. In February 2021, Tyson took to Instagram to vote against the publisher after announcing the project.

“While it’s unfortunate that Hulu has announced that it will make an unauthorized miniseries of the Tyson story without compensation, it’s not surprising,” the boxer wrote in a now-deleted post. “This statement in the context of social inequality in our country is a prime example of how Hulu’s corporate greed has led to cultural adoption of Tyson’s life story.” Making this announcement during Black History Month only confirms Hulu’s concern about respecting Black History rights. Hollywood needs to be more sensitive to the black experience, especially after what happened in 2020.

“Mike” premieres August 25 on Hulu. TV series, Steven Rogers (I am Tony) and starring Trevante Rhodes. Other cast members include Russell Hornsby, Harvey Keitel, Laura Harrier and Lee Eubanks.
