The historical drama is about King XV, who has a working-class background who uses his wit and charm to climb the social ladder. It follows the life of Jeanne Dubarry, Louis’ last mistress. Maiwenn Le Besco will play the main role in the movie.

The role of Louis XV will be the first for Johnny Depp in three years: he lost film projects due to allegations of violence by his ex-wife Amber Heard. In May, the court considered Amber’s words libelous.
