Sony Pictures Animation and Blacklist Partner in New Writers Program

Special: Blacklist partners with Academy Award-winning Sony Pictures Animation for the first writers program to develop and diversify animation talent.

The Sony Pictures Animation x Blacklist Writers Program will work at the studio for a period of six months, selecting a writer who is creatively responsible for creating custom dialogue animation, scripts that will sink the development board. Representing a global and diverse audience that the studio seeks to entertain, the show will be attended by individual writers who are only interested in honing their skills in the world of animation. Submitted screenplays can be of any genre and be in the form of a movie, play or musical, but pilot scripts will not be accepted. They don’t necessarily need animation and will be in patterns. Presenting authors should be able to participate in the six-month full-time program that runs from fall through winter this year.

Applications are now open on blcklst.com and will close on 8 July. Selected authors will receive placement notifications and take the next steps this summer.

The Black List, an annual survey of Hollywood executives’ favorite unproductive scripts, was founded in 2005. Since then, at least 440 blacklisted scripts have been created, earning more than $30 billion at the worldwide box office. The blacklisted films earned 54 Academy Awards from 267 nominations, including four of the four Best Picture Oscars in the last 12 and 28 of the 11 Best Screenplays.

In October 2012, Blacklist launched an online community where authors present their work to readers, buyers and employers. Since its inception, it has presented nearly 80,000 screenplays and television shows, and has rated more than 130,000 screenplays. As a direct result of their blacklist entries, dozens of writers were represented at major agencies and talented management companies, as well as sold or borrowed their scripts. The Blacklist currently hosts more than 5,000 scripts from nearly 3,700 writer members available to industry professionals from agency goers, studio and network heads, A-list actors and directors.
