James Franco, whose career took a turn for the worse after a sex scandal, took on the role of Fidel Castro in Miguel Bardem’s film about the Cuban leader’s illegitimate daughter, Alina Fernandez. This caused a wave of public discontent – many disliked that Franco was approved for the role, even though he was not Hispanic.

Therefore, Colombian-American actor John Leguizamo posted on social networks an article about cultural appropriation in the film industry and called for a boycott of the film.

Other media personalities joined Leguizamo’s anger, including his colleague Jeff Torres and writer Lilliam Rivera.

But there were those who spoke in defense of James Franco, and among them was Alina Fernandez herself.
