“The Vampire Diaries” star Daniel Gillies to join Roku Original and ABC Australia drama “The Newsreader” as a regular series

Exclusive: Daniel Gillies, known for roles The Vampire Diaries Y virgin riversjoins the cast of the acclaimed Australian drama Roku the news reader.

The Canadian actor, raised in New Zealand, is a series regular and will join the likes of Anna Torvey, Sam Reid, William McInnes and Robert Taylor in the second season of the series set in the wacky world of the 1980s. Melbourne, Australia.

We’ve heard that Gillies will play Charlie, who is believed to be the privileged eldest son of an elderly newspaper tycoon who desperately wants to make his mark on the world.

A second season of the costume drama is currently in production, with the first season available in the US via Roku, which acquired the rights from distributor eOne earlier this year and released it under the Roku Originals brand. Written and drawn by Michael Lucas (offspringIt comes from Werner Film Productions, was invested primarily by Screen Australia and ABC and funded with support from Film Victoria.

Gill’s credits include the 2021 film I come home in the darkA hair-raising thriller at Sundance in New Zealand and a recurring role in a Netflix soap opera virgin river. He is best known for his role in the CW feature drama. The Vampire Diaries and its spin-off The originals.
