Benny Feldstein will be skipping Broadway shows this weekend funny Girl Due to a case of tonsillitis and “extremely contagious”.
Feldstein’s replacement Julie Benko will play Fanny Brice this weekend.
“You just have to laugh at some point,” Feldstein says in an Instagram video posted this afternoon. “When it rains, it falls on your old friend Bini.”
In the video, Feldstein says he has just returned from an appointment with an otolaryngologist and, by order of the doctor, will not be able to take the stage until the antibiotics stop being contagious.
“The last thing I want on this earth is for the people I love to get sick,” he says, “and I’m just not allowed to go on stage on weekends.”
Feldstein, whose recent announcement that he would be leaving the show permanently on July 31 sparked a flurry of headlines, which only escalated the next day with the casting of Lea Michele’s replacement, begins his new video on Instagram joking: “Hello to everyone, I’m registering now. What did I miss what’s going on, I’ll start … “
Benko will play the role of Fan throughout the month of August until Michele arrives on September 6 and will perform on Thursday evening after the show.
