After Saeed Roustaee’s Tehran Law, Leila and her brothers arrive at the cinema

After the excellent The Law of Tehran, Iranian director Saeed Roustaee returns for a second feature film centered on Leila, a brilliant and determined heroine.

At the age of 30, Iranian director Saeed Roustaee created a surprise in 2021 with a first feature film panting and much noticed by critics and spectators. A real dive into the heart of drug trafficking in the Iranian capital, Tehran law immersed us in an atmosphere of suspense that knew no downtime.

August 24Roustae is returns to the cinema with a new Iranian fresco entitled Leila and her brothers.

The trailer for this drama has been presented in competition at the Cannes Film Festival has been unveiled.

The plot follows Leila, a young woman who has dedicated her entire life to her parents and four siblings. Very affected by an unprecedented economic crisis, the family is in debt and tears. To get them out of this situation, Leila devises a plan : buy a shop to start a business with siblings.

At the same time and to everyone’s surprise, their father Esmail promises a large sum of money to his community to become one the new godfather, the highest honor in the Persian tradition. Gradually, the actions of each of its members bring the family to the brink of implosion, as the health of the patriarch deteriorates.

A well-known director for his first film

With this trailer, we’re assuming Saeed Roustaee hasn’t lost anything his photographic gaze and sound very dynamic sense of rhythm. Child prodigy of Iranian cinema, the director builds his films around many characters without misleading the viewerin the manner of the greatest, such as Martin Scorsese or Francis Ford Coppola with The Godfather.

We are also delighted that, after a foray into the almost exclusively male world of drug trafficking in Tehran, Roustaee’s camera lands on a heroine. Next to Taraneh Allidousti, we find two actors who showed their incredible talent in Tehran lawPeyman Maadi and Navid Mohammadzadeh.
