‘Only Murders in the Building’: Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez on Discovering Familial Connections in Season 2

Just the murders in the building. The season 2 premiere was marked by a celebration hosted by Steve Martin, Selena Gomez and Martin Short in Los Angeles.

On the red carpet, the trio told Deadline how the series’ characters learned about their family lives while trying to solve the mystery of who killed Bani (Jane Howichel).

“Of course I have a lot of unresolved issues with my son that were discovered this year,” Short said of his character Oliver Putnam and his son Will (Ryan Brusard).

Brussard said: “This season we will dig deeper into the background of the father-son relationship. We’ve had a bit of a look at this over the last 2 seasons and you can really see this relationship evolve. You can also expect to see some secrets.”

Gomez’s character, Mabel, will also travel back in time to heal her many pains in the present. And his love life will also be strengthened thanks to alice in the character of Cara Delevingne.

“For Mabel, you see her private life with her father and her growth in general,” said Gomez, who will also be in touch with Martin’s young stepmother Lucy this season.

“Zoe plays the kind of stepmother I rekindle the parent/child relationship,” says Martin of Zoe Colette, who joined the cast as Lucy in Season 2. “She’s also a great complement since she’s younger than Selena, so it’s fun to see Maybel struggle to understand this 14 or 15 year old girl.”

Colette said, “Lucy is a featured character in the first season, so it’s interesting to see her on the show. dynamic with Charles [Martin] Really heartbreaking. This is the side of Steve’s character we haven’t seen before. Selena’s dynamic with lead actress Mabel is hilarious as she gets used to being one of the super hip teens of the group. Now [Mabel] There is a younger person who has been upset for a while. It will be fun to watch.”

TV series co-founder John Hoffman laughs at the relationship between Charles, Mabel and Oliver and the challenges they’ve faced this season.

“The thing about season 2 is that we’re handling this secret more than last season because of the situation where the trio would find themselves in the finale,” Hoffman said. “These three are the only people in the world who can relate to what they’ve been through. That’s why they need to stay together until they get to know each other well. They learn new things going forward and we test and plan that relationship. This funny pocket they found in season one really pops up in season two.
