The Duke Ellington School of the Arts building in Washington is officially due tonight to bear the name of one of the school’s most famous alumni: Dave Chapel.
The name was given in support of Chapel’s school, especially since he and his friends were the group that raised the most money for the building.
Chapel has been at the center of the controversy since last year when the comments on Netflix were perceived as transphobic. Even students confronted him when he visited the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in November.
Good by Washington Post critic Josh Rogin and Other Reports announced at the ceremony tonight that the comedian will ultimately not say his name on stage. Instead, he decided to call it the Theater of Freedom and Artistic Expression.
He then described how he characterized and analyzed his work.
“I saw in the newspaper a man dressed in women’s clothes threw a cake at the Mona Lisa and tried to stir up trouble. This made me laugh and I thought: ‘Right Close. “

“You can’t condemn an artist’s work and remove artistic nuance,” he said.
The comedian likened the news to a man being shot in the face by a large rabbit, but did not say that the game depicted was a Bugs Bunny cartoon.
