In an interview with CNN on March 26, Sean Penn addressed the organizers of the Oscar ceremony, demanding that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky be given the opportunity to speak at the upcoming ceremony. In case of refusal, he urged his colleagues to boycott the film award.

According to the information obtained by the actor and director, the American Film Academy has decided that Zelensky’s speech via video link will not be included in the ceremony program.

He also promised to destroy the Oscar statuettes – the actor has two for the best male role in the films “Harvey Milk” and “Mystic River”.

The idea of ​​inviting Zelensky to give a speech was suggested by comedian Amy Schumer, who co-hosts the ceremony to be held in Los Angeles on March 28. The fact that the President of Ukraine has indeed discussed the possibility of attending the event with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts was confirmed by The New York Post tabloid on March 25. But no decision has been taken in this regard.

Sean Penn is currently busy making a documentary about a special military operation that began in Ukraine on February 24 at the behest of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
