Leaded by the Australian National University of Australia Abram, scientists found that Antarctica was facing irreversible changes in the environment that threatens ecosystem: the loss of the ice shield mass accelerated almost six times. Measurement data (since 1978) and satellite observations were used as part of the study.

Experts followed the changes in the sea and shelf ice area, the speed of sea flows and the structure of the penguins in Antarctic. The results of the study showed that large amounts of sea ice melted in the region. In July 2023, the ice shield area was stated that there were seven standard deviations below the 1981-2010 level and went beyond the natural changes in the last centuries.
The rapid melting of the ice negatively affected the environment. Therefore, mass problems have been observed in the spread of empire penguins in Antarctica since 2016. As stated in the Nature Scientific Journal, ice melts before chicks and is ready to be in water.
In addition, heating affected the rate of formation of heavy and salty lower waters that had to be rejected by ice, which led to slowing down the overturning circulation of the Southern Ocean. This is an important process that moves the heat from the equatorial regions to the poles, and vice versa, as well as to the sea base and to the surface.
We have previously said that blue whales have at risk or rather have vocal abilities.
