Whitney Houston’s former bodyguard says there was a time when his feelings for the singer were completely unprofessional. David Roberts, whose story was based on the 1992 movie “The Bodyguard,” talked about this in an interview with the Daily Mail.
The man, who was born in Wales and served as Houston’s bodyguard from 1988 to 1995, was interviewed by the publication ahead of the release of his memoir, “Defending Whitney,” scheduled for release in January 2025.
Although Roberts, 73, insisted Houston’s safety was always his top priority, he said the star laid her head on his shoulder one evening and was willing to “give up everything” to change the nature of their relationship.
“If you cross this line, you lose your objectivity and it becomes dangerous for the person you are protecting. That’s why Frank Farmer and Rachel Marron (characters from the movie “Bodyguard” – Note ed.) couldn’t be together; “He crossed the line and that was the end of the performance he was hired to do,” he said.
“He and I actually experienced most of what happened in the movie. Little details like Rachel holding on to the back of her shirt to hide from the crowd of fans. “This is how we did it,” he continued.
Let us remind you that Whitney Houston passed away on February 11, 2012. The singer’s causes of death were drowning, atherosclerotic heart disease and illegal substance use. The death was described as an “accident” and investigators “did not suspect injuries or violence.”
And this year Whitney’s mother died at the age of 91. The vocalist was a two-time Grammy Award winner.
