Gladiator 2 director Ridley Scott and star Paul Mescal remained on good terms after filming was completed. They managed to get along again.
The actor and director appeared to be best friends when they arrived at the film’s premiere. They laughed, joked and posed on the red carpet for Gladiator 2. In the blockbuster film, 86-year-old Scott Mescal plays 28-year-old Paul as Lucius Verus, the son of the main character of the first part of the film. The young actor admitted that there was some noise on the set.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Paul Mescal talked about how he had a serious argument with the director over a difficult scene. Paul rehearsed the horse show for four months, but at the last minute Ridley Scott decided to cut the scene from the film. After a rowdy showdown, the director still allowed the scene to be shot but warned Paul Mescal that he would only do two takes.
It was finally possible to shoot the scene, and Ridley Scott and Paul Mescal regained good relations with each other. 20 years ago, there were some conflicts on the set of the first episode of Gladiator. Then Joaquin Phoenix, who played the role of the main antagonist, showed dissatisfaction on the set.
