Stephen King’s first novel, Carrie, is being adapted into a television series. The new film adaptation will be the third in a row.

This time Amazon is taking over. Therefore, a series is urgently planned. Variety writes that the film will be directed by horror film expert Mike Flanagan. The show’s tagline describes it as a bold and timely re-imagining of the story of down-on-her-luck high school student Carrie White, who spends her life living in seclusion with her overbearing mother. Following the sudden and untimely death of her father, Carrie encounters bullying and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers in the unfamiliar environment of her public high school.

Flanagan will write and executive produce the series and also serve as showrunner. Carrie was King’s first novel, published in 1974. The book entered the bestseller list. In 1976, the movie starring Sissy Spacek was shot. The film is widely cited as one of the best horror films of all time. The sequel, Fury: Carrie 2, was released in 1999, followed by a remake in 2002 and another starring Chloë Grace Moretz in 2013.
