Amputation survivor Roman Kostomarov described his first meeting with a psychologist

Roman Kostomarov shared the details of his meeting with a psychologist while he was in the hospital in 2023. The Olympic champion spent about six months in the clinic due to pneumonia, which caused complications in the body. The athlete developed necrosis of the limbs, which led to the amputation of the legs of both legs, the hand on one hand and the fingers on the other.

The skater admitted that she was not satisfied with her communication with the psychologist. “After the excess is removed, I lie in my bed. A woman comes up to me and says: “How are you?” I answer: “Goodbye.” “I don’t need a psychologist, especially with such an approach,” Kostomarov said in the “Heart to Heart” program.

According to the Olympic champion, he asked the doctors not to send anyone to him. As Roman points out, only a prosthetist could bring him back to his senses. “I was going to talk to him. When a healthy person comes up to you and asks “How are you?”, lying without arms and legs is a bit rejecting, the athlete summarized.

Let’s also remember that Roman’s wife, Oksana Domnina, was with him throughout his illness. The figure skater continues to support her lover and does not allow him to give up, accompanying her in any situation.

Kostomarov started training hard to regain his previous form. And last year he even went on the ice together with Tatyana Navka.
