More space news of all kinds: Humanity has broken the record for the number of people in orbit around the Earth at the same time, NASA reports.
On September 14, 2024, it was recorded that there were 19 people in low Earth orbit. This happened after the successful launch of the Russian spacecraft Soyuz MS-26 to the ISS. The crew included Russians Alexey Ovchinin, Ivana Vagner and NASA astronaut Donald Pettit. Their stay in orbit is planned to last 202 days, during which scientific research and spacewalks will be carried out.
Let’s recall that the previous record for the number of people simultaneously in orbit was broken after the launch of the Chinese spacecraft Shenzhou-16 in 2023. Then the crew consisted of 17 people.
