Francis Ford Coppola is planning to shoot his new movie in London. The Godfather director has revealed a very personal and heartbreaking reason for this.
Coppola, 85, is planning a comic film he wants to dedicate to his wife Elinor, who died in April of this year. “I want to do it in London, the only place I’ve never been with my wife,” Coppola told the Daily Mail. “I want to go somewhere where no matter where I turn, I won’t see her.”
A statement about Coppola’s wife’s death was published in the Associated Press in April 2024. The celebrity’s relatives did not explain the cause of the incident. Eleanor first met Francis in 1962, while working as a production assistant on her first feature film, the low-budget horror film Dementia 13. They were never apart after that.
She married Coppola in 1963 and had her first child, Gian-Carlo. He died in 1986 at the age of 22. His fiancée was pregnant and gave birth to a daughter, Gia, who soon became a screenwriter and director. Francis Ford and Elinor had two more children, Roman and Sophia, who became directors.
