Francis Ford Coppola has commented for the first time on the obscenity allegations. The 85-year-old director claims his rivals lied to him.
Coppola wrote, directed and produced the sci-fi epic Metropolis, starring Adam Driver. A few months ago, The Guardian published a report that the director had behaved inappropriately with women on set.
“The truth is they were looking for some dirt. The young women I kissed on the cheek were people I knew personally. The whole thing is ridiculous. Look at the timing of this article,” Coppola responded to Rolling Stone.
An article denouncing the director was published in May, when the film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Coppola sees the publication as an order from rivals and an attempt to discredit his name ahead of the premiere.
Recall that allegedly explicit material reportedly featured Francis Ford Coppola making women sit on his lap and attempting to kiss actresses who were filming topless on set.
