In this photo taken on the fly, we can see Brigitte Macron in a blue swimsuit on a boat, accompanied in particular by her husband. She is standing, with one leg slightly raised and resting on the edge of the boat, in a position that makes one think she is about to dive into the water of the Mediterranean Sea. One thing arouses the misplaced curiosity of her detractors: the crotch of the former French teacher. In the sun, in the posture she has adopted, some see a kind of relief that leads them to think it is a male. It was enough for the rumor about her alleged trans identity to be relaunched throughout the world..
On X we can read comments like: “Find what’s wrong” (Candace Owens @realCandaceO); “Brigitte Macron’s package. Case closed” (Paolo Kikos @pkikos); “Why appear like this? Has Jean Michel decided to come out? (Camille Mosca @camille_moscow). Many of them even invite you to enlarge the private parts in question to prove that they are supposedly right. Inappropriate and offensive invitations and comments, which dehumanize Brigitte Macron and reduce her to a common beast.
A rumor about transsexuality that has been circulating for several years
This voice is not new: it is 2021, during the presidential campaignlet it explode on the Internet. On Facebook, a woman who presented herself as an independent journalist claimed that Emmanuel Macron’s wife was actually a man. To make her information credible, she also revealed his supposed old name: Jean-Michel Trogneux. The fake news was then widely shared on social networks and spread by conspiracy websites.
Transphobia at its peak
But that’s not the worst thing. The controversy was the perfect opportunity for transphobes to publicly vent their hatred towards transgender people : many of them did not hesitate to make unacceptable, offensive and extremely virulent comments towards the first lady and the entire trans community at the same time.
We see them accompanying their posts with insensitive and mean emojis, making degrading comparisons to trans people…
Whether or not one approves of the President of the Republic’s policy, it is time to leave his wife’s body alone, that of all other women, and to stop transphobia.
