The iconic director, 78, has revealed that he suffers from emphysema, which means he “can’t leave the house anymore.” Due to his condition, David Lynch can now “only walk a short distance before his oxygen runs out.”
The creator of Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive explained in an interview with Sight and Sound magazine that the reason for his development of the disease was his lifelong smoking. If the filmmaker returns to work, he will have to do it remotely. But he doesn’t like it.
“Whether I like it or not, I’m stuck at home now. In my current state, even catching a cold would be terrible,” said David Lynch. He also emphasized that he doesn’t like working remotely on films.
Let’s also note that the director’s last film project was the third season of the Twin Peaks series, which was released in 2017. In 2024, David Lynch proposed a new project idea to the famous streaming service – the animated film Snootworld. Tim Burton’s film screenwriter Caroline Thompson was supposed to work on it. However, the project was abandoned.
