Not only Olga Buzova: other Russian stars entered the world charts

Internet users put a photo of the singer on their avatars and encourage everyone to join their community, and the artist’s song is called anthem.

We decided to tell about other Russian stars who entered the world music charts at different times.

Katya Lel – “My Marmalade”

Katya Lel’s song “My Marmalade” gained a new wave of popularity in 2023 after almost 20 years. It took third place in the Viral 50 list. Russian hit of the 2000s Is It Over Now? Taylor Swift.

Thanks to TikTok, the whole world sang the lines “try jaga-jaga”. Internet users filmed videos in which they opened their mouths to the piece in “traditional Russian clothes” – fur hats and fur coats. The number of videos exceeded 15 thousand.


Alsou – Before You Loved Me

After participating in Eurovision 2000, the interest of foreign audiences in Alsou increased. The song Before You Love Me, released after the contest, entered the world music charts. The song reached number 27 and stayed on the charts for three weeks.

The 2009 song reached number one on the Billboard Luxembourg Digital Songs, number two in Germany (the video was shown on a local music channel), and number seven in Austria and France. The track reached number nine on the Billboard Global Dance Songs chart. The single’s video has been viewed 145 million times on YouTube. And it’s still growing (it’s over 480 million).


Polina Gagarina – A Million Voices

Polina Gagarina’s performance at Eurovision 2015 with the song A Million Voices was a huge success. The singer brought Russia a worthy second place. And her composition began to conquer the music charts.

The track first topped the Russian iTunes chart. One Million Voices later entered the UK Singles Chart. The album, which includes all the Eurovision 2015 songs, including Gagarina’s song, also took leading positions in foreign charts.


Serebro – Mama Lover and Mi Mi Mi

The English version of the song “Mama Lyuba” peaked at number 49 on the Japan Hot 100 and number 19 on the Mexico Airplay. And the song Mi Mi Mi peaked at number eight on the Dutch download chart and number 88 on the Japan Hot 100.

Also the single and album of the same name Mama Lover and the song Mi Mi Mi were certified platinum in Italy. And the download chart of this country included four songs of the group: Mama Lover, Mi Mi Mi, Kiss and Gun.


Nastya Zadorozhnaya – “I will”

In 2007, Nastya Zadorozhnaya entered the American charts with a Russian-language song. At the time, none of our stars could do that. The song peaked at number 41 on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart.

In 2009, the singer’s composition reached number 48 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club chart, which includes tracks popular in US nightclubs. The song later rose to number 25 and stayed on the charts for more than 10 weeks.

Three of the group’s songs entered the prestigious foreign charts: Not Gonna Get Us, All About Us and All the Things She Said. The song stayed at number one for four weeks. However, only “All About Us” became a hit, entering the top 10 of most European charts.

And their first English-language album, t.A.T.u., debuted at number 13 on the Billboard 200. The band also gained popularity in Japan, where their record, which reached speeds of 120 mph in the land of the rising sun, Wrong Lane, sold 1.8 million copies.

The group’s breakup did not fade away the soloist’s fame: Lena Katina’s remix of her debut song, Never Forget, topped the Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs chart.
