Tang Shangjun, 36, has been called “China’s most stubborn man.” Oddity Central writes that the matter has been trying to get into the prestigious Tsinghua University for 16 years.

Tang took her first gaokao, a tough national entrance exam, in 2009 at age 20. She then scored 372 out of 750, far too low a score to get into the university she dreamed of.
Shangjun did not want to enter another university, and for the next few years, he diligently gnawed away at the granite of science by preparing for entrance exams. In 2016, he scored 625 points. These points were more than enough for him to enter many universities in his hometown of Guanxi, but before Tsinghua, it was not enough. The applicant persistently continued to move towards his goal, but he never reached the required level.
Tang scored 649 points in 2019, which was enough to get into Tsinghua, but he missed his target physics and chemistry majors. In the following years, Shangjun’s results deteriorated. Last year, he decided to deviate from his dream and enter Central China Normal University (also physics or chemistry), but only missed by 14 points, scoring 594 points.
The “eternal student,” now 36, is starting to realize that even if he eventually gets accepted into the university of his choice, his chances of finding a good job after graduation are diminishing because he will have to compete with 20-year-olds.
In recent years, Tang Shanjun has worked part-time jobs to support himself and his aging parents. He has realized that it is now time to focus on finding a stable job.
