To accompany your summer meals, nothing better than “homemade” pita. Do you think it’s complicated? Absolutely not! The recipe we propose is taken from the cookbook Small dishes like in IsraelMarabout du monde Editions. We have tested it and these pitas are delicious, besides being very easy to prepare. You can enjoy them with small salads, sauces (hummus, tarama, eggplant caviar).
For 6 Zaatar pitas you need:
1 sachet of dry yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
800 g of flour
2 teaspoons salt
Olive oil
5 tablespoons of Zaatar
The recipe in detail
In a bowl, mix 500 ml of warm water with the yeast and sugar, then add the flour, salt and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Mix the mixture until you get a smooth dough. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
Using a knife, divide the dough into 6 pieces of about 200 g and form balls. Let it rest for 5 minutes. Using a rolling pin, roll out each ball and let it rest for another 5 minutes. Preheat the pan to high heat and cook the pita for 2 minutes on each side. After cooking, brush the pitas with a little olive oil and sprinkle with Zaatar.
