The Mashco-Piro tribe lives in the tropical forests of Peru. It consists of about 750 people, The Guardian reported. The tribe has no contact with ordinary Peruvians or other Indians, but has begun to appear more frequently near foreign settlements in recent months.

The reason why Aborigines began to migrate to new areas may have been the loss of familiar lands due to deforestation and the difficulty of finding food. Missionary Rosa Padilla noted that the local people were fleeing from loggers.

“At this time of year they come to the beaches to lay Trakaya (Amazon tortoise) eggs. That’s when we find footprints in the sand. They leave behind a lot of tortoise shells,” he explained. According to Padilla, the tribe lives “restlessly” because they are always “on the run.” In a video posted online, Mashko-Piros appeared just a few kilometers from where deforestation is planned.
