Users of social networks with a daily audience of more than 1,000 may be required to transfer data about themselves to Roskomnadzor, TASS reports with reference to the ministry. The initiative is explained by the desire for “security of the information environment”, since “online platforms today often serve as media for Russians.”

If the proposal is implemented, bloggers will be required to provide RKN with their full name and contact details so that legally important information can be sent. It was explained that no registration is mentioned; a simple notification means that the account holder is disseminating information.
This will apply to owners of open pages if the number of visitors exceeds a thousand people per day. Russian companies will be prohibited from ordering advertising on pages whose owners have not notified the RKN.
