Marie Sissoko is 27 years old. She is a young woman full of life and desires. Yet her story is painful. Before turning one, Marie was the victim of a terrible domestic accident that completely disfigured her. His life was turned upside down because of a faulty radiator. She tells us: “When my mother put me to bed, she always had the habit of placing me on a certain side to avoid accidents with the heating.”
But that day it was her nanny who took care of her and she made her sleep on the wrong side. Marie is badly burned and suffers about fifty operations : transplants, reconstruction, rehabilitation. Most important? That the organs in his face work, that he can eat, speak, breathe.
Living through the eyes of others
At 3 years old, Marie returned to France and started school. “My mother faced prejudice. My registration was rejected. The principal did not want to take responsibility for accepting me in school and for me being harassed.” She will finally be able to go to another school and work on herself to open up to others. Marie tells us that she has heard offensive comments and inappropriate curiosity, but it has not traumatized her.
As she grew older, she underwent further surgeries to improve the aesthetics of her face. Burns are a very difficult infection to treat, which involves taking risks with each procedure. It was very difficult to acceptit took a lot of resilience. I don’t have an ordinary body, but I know where I come from and I want to thank those who took care of me, who did the best they could. » Marie still needs surgery, she also does aesthetic medicine to improve her face. It’s a long and painful process. Marie has always been passionate about beauty. She loves to put on makeup and try hairstyles. “It’s my escape route”tell us.
