Sweden, a very generous country in terms of the length of parental leave, now allows parents to give up forty-five days of parental leave to a third party who will be compensated for the care of their child, he reports The world. On Facebook, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson welcomed a reform that would finally allow “to a grandfather” take parental leave. It is true that grandparents, whether active or retired, are in great demand to look after their grandchildren, especially during the holidays. But from there to looking after a child full time for a long period, nothing is less certain!
An already very generous system
Sweden currently offers parents 480 days of parental leave with compensation. For 390 days (13 months), the benefit reaches approximately 80% of income. For the remaining 90 days the maximum limit is 180 crowns (16 euros) per day.
It is worth remembering that currently in France the initial duration of parental leave is one year and can be extended five times (under certain conditions) to end before the child’s sixth birthday. Its compensation is very low, around 500 euros maximum. Birth leave is being studied, shorter and better paid, but this measure promised by Emmanuel Macron could be forgotten.

If the Swedish measure aims to make it easier for families to organize, it is already facing criticism. Its detractors fear that “commodification” of parental leave. Others fear that this system will discourage fathers from taking all their parental leave, under pressure from their boss. What do you think?
