It looks like we were so caught up in the impending release of the fifth “Shrek” that we missed a major event in Eddie Murphy’s life. Meanwhile, in a new interview, he introduced his longtime girlfriend Paige Butcher as his wife.
The couple had been together since 2012. Eddie and Paige got engaged in 2018, but that’s where the news ended. The lovers never announced their wedding or their separation. And so, speaking on The New York Times podcast The Interview, the comedian called his fiancée his wife twice.
“I used to be very fashionable, I knew who everyone was, but now a lot has changed… I ask my wife: “Who is this person?” Murphy said.
Less than two weeks before the podcast episode airs, Murphy was spotted wearing the ring on the red carpet. The Shrek actor has worn the piece to previous events, including the 2020 and 2023 Golden Globes. Meanwhile, during his 12-year relationship with Paige Butcher, the couple have a daughter named Una, who is now eight, and a son named Max Charles, who just turned five.
Let’s remember that Eddie was married to Nicole Murphy, who gave him five children (including son Miles) and Tracy E. Edmonds. He became a father for the first time in 1989. Then Paulette McNeely gave birth to her son Eric. He had another son, Christian, with Tamara Hood in 1990. He also has a daughter with Spice Girls member Melanie Brown.
