Reading conspiracy theories is a guilty pleasure for The Fashion Vibes editors. We know almost everything about the secret government, freemasons and reptilians, and we also watch quite “convincing” videos that the American moon landing was filmed by Stanley Kubrick and that Taylor Swift is actually a clone of Satanist Zina LaVey. There are so many conspiracy theories that we even did a study with the 10 craziest ones.
Meanwhile, there are crazy conspiracy theories in the fashion industry that you can’t get enough of reading. In the last few years, it has started to be written on the internet that Giorgio Armani died a long time ago, that Kate Moss is her stunt double, and that Jonathan Anderson is four different people. It is interesting, is not it?
Of course, there is no evidence for any theory, but it is still interesting to follow them. If you are a fan of mystery and mysticism like us, you should definitely read this material. We have compiled the five most discussed conspiracy theories in the fashion world.
Donatella Versace was involved in Gianni’s death

Even people far from the fashion industry know about the murder of Gianni Versace. On the morning of July 15, 1997, the designer went to buy a new newspaper (although his assistant usually did this). As Versace was climbing the stairs of his house, two gunshots were heard. Both bullets hit the target directly. An ambulance arrived a few minutes later, but the designer could not be saved. So who is the killer? According to the official version, it was serial maniac Andrew Cunanan who shot himself with the same pistol a few days after the crime. However, some believe that the Italian mafia was involved in these cases. At one point they even said that the designer owed them a large amount of money.

True, there is another version. Many internet users believe that the designer’s siblings Santo and Donatella played a role in his death. First, thanks to the tragedy, Santo took over 30% of the brand’s shares, and Donatella and her daughter Allegra took over 70%. Secondly, Gianni’s sister canceled an important deal she had initiated with JP Morgan to list the company on the stock market. There are rumors that he was initially against it. Third, insiders reported constant disagreements within the family over business development.
Rick Owens – Satanist

Rick Owens is one of the most mysterious designers of our time, working in the avant-garde neo-Gothic “genre”. His collections consist of a real mixture of aliens, the performances turn into complex plastic performances, and the main muse of the designer (and also his wife) is the ugly Michelle Lamy. Although Rick grew up in a conservative Catholic family, his shady approach to business may be why some internet users classify him as a Satanist. But conspiracy theorists have their own justifications for everything. They claim that it was Michelle Lamy who insisted on making a deal with the devil because after meeting her, the designer’s career took off.

Moreover, there were once rumors on the Internet that real sacrifices were made at Rick Owens’ private parties. Of course there is no evidence of this. Occult symbols are also very common in the brand’s collections and shoots. For example, following the campaign for the Rick Owens x Converse collaboration, the designer came under intense criticism for his use of pentagrams.
LVMH will acquire the Vetements brand

Last fall, the entire fashion community actively followed the scandal between two brothers: Guram Gvasalia (founder of the Vetements brand) and Demna Gvasalia (creative director of Balenciaga). Rumors of disagreements in the family have been circulating for a long time, but the media started talking about it after the Balenciaga show, which also featured the brothers’ mother, Ella Gvasalia. Guram was not at this show and soon after published a post on a banned social network in which he said: “I am proud of my mother at the opening of the Balenciaga show. It’s a real shame that I wasn’t invited to see it with my own eyes. I pray for my brother’s soul. God bless her.” And after a while, the younger brother published a photo of two almost identical dresses and accused Balenciaga of plagiarism. Demna, meanwhile, did not react to all this.

But the most interesting thing started later, namely on March 2 of this year. Then, the Vetements autumn-winter collection, opened by Russian model Natalia Vodianova, was shown in Paris. At this point, all the conspiracy theorists stepped in and decided that Guram was implying that Vetements would join the LVMH holding (we remind you that Vodianova is the wife of Antoine Arnault, the heir of the LVMH group of companies). Why does Guram need this? It’s simple: The holding finances and develops young brands. This means the brothers can finally compete on equal terms. The irony here is that Balenciaga is owned by the Kering conglomerate, LVMH’s main rival.
They want to remove Demna Gvasalia from the fashion industry

It all started in 2022 when Balenciaga released an accessories campaign for children. The shoot was hired by photographer Gabriele Galimberti, who collaborates with National Geographic and has been involved in the Toy Story project for more than 10 years, photographing children with their favorite dolls, cars and other things. Balenciaga decided to do a project in the same style, and immediately after the campaign was released, it received hate from subscribers and accusations that it used photographs of children with BDSM-style objects (children were holding harnesses, chokers and spiked soft toys). But the scandal did not end there. The most attentive Internet users noticed that on the branded yellow tape the brand name was written with two A’s, that is, Baalenciaga. Baal is a demon or demon in some cultures. And if you divide the word into syllables you get Baal enci aga. Translated from Latin it means: “Baal is the king.” An incredible coincidence, considering Balenciaga is the legendary designer’s last name. But conspiracy theorists still insisted, and religious fanatics confirmed, that the brand’s connection to Satan was clear.

The next blow to Balenciaga’s reputation was his office campaign with Isabelle Huppert. The same attentive Internet users saw on the table an album by contemporary Belgian artist Michael Borremans, known, among other things, for his controversial works with naked children. The fashion house almost immediately issued a statement, stating that it was not they who were to blame, but the producers of the campaign. But the job is done. And here another conspiracy theory arises, directly involving Demna Gvasalia. Some in the industry were whispering that Kering wanted to get rid of Balenciaga’s creative director, and to do so so that he could not continue his career, given his reputation.
There are almost no pockets to sell accessories in women’s clothes.

This conspiracy theory has nothing to do with any specific designer. But she has a claim against the entire fashion industry. Many armchair conspiracy theorists have wondered why there are almost no pockets on women’s clothes, concluding that this is a cunning marketing tactic by fashion brands to better sell their bags and accessories. As a result, more and more videos discussing the topic began to appear on TikTok and other social networks. By the way, there is definitely some truth in this theory, because the size of the pockets in men’s jeans is very different from women’s models.
