Although she had always announced that she would not resume her role as a exhausted policewoman after the end of “Mare of Easttown”, Kate Winslet could finally return in a season 2.

There are few great feminist crime series. But Easttown Mare is part of.

Airing on HBO in 2021 (and now on the Max platform here), it followed the trajectory of Marianne “Mare” Sheehan (Kate Winslet), a police sergeant with a complicated home life in a small Pennsylvania town, and who is accused of investigating the murder of a teenage girl.

Originally presented as a miniseries, Easttown Mare it was a real success, both with critics and the public, which led its creators to reconsider the idea of giving it a sequel.

A few months after the series ended, HBO chief Casey Bloys said as much Variety :

“ [Le créateur] Brad [Ingelsby], Kate and the producers are talking to see if they think there’s a place for it. I think in a few weeks they’ll tell us if they think it’s a story worth telling and that they’re excited about. I can’t wait to hear and see what they have to say. »

It took a while, but now it’s almost certain: Easttown Mare will undoubtedly have the right to a season 2.

Asked by VarietyFrancesca Orsi, head of series at HBO, said:

“Even though there's nothing planned, we're having preliminary discussions that it might be time to start thinking about building something. We might consider bringing Mare back years later, not in the wake of what he did, but because years have passed for the character. Who is he now? »

Now it remains to convince Kate Winslet to resume her role as a tormented policewoman. In an interview given in 2022 to the podcast Happy Sad Confusedthe actress didn't seem ready to return: “The question is whether you give up while you're in the lead. Do we hold our heads high and say, “Look what we did, I'm so proud,” and walk away? Or do we start again? »

Since then, she seems to have put water in the wine by declaring that if they asked her to play this character again, she would "probably" say yes.

Continues.
