Thank God: the plague of child abuse in the French Church

Published in 2018, Thank God is one of the best movies on Netflix. Directed by François Ozon which follows the story of three men – Alexandre, François and Emmanuel – who, decades after suffering sexual abuse by a Catholic priest, they decide to break the silence.

The film is inspired by the Preynat casenamed after the priest Bernard Preynat, who was accused sexual abuse of many children in the 80s and 90s. In 2015, victims began to come forward publicly, leading to a publicized trial a conviction of the priest in 2020. The film explores their fight for justice and their attempt at personal reconstruction in the face of an ecclesiastical system limited to denying its crimes.

The movie is an emotional and political tour de force. This is a forum for victims who, despite the pain and trauma, denounce criminals and the complicit silences. The film is brought forward by Melvil Poupaud, Denis Ménochet and Swann Arlaud (Anatomy of a fall), moving and admirable actors.

Murder without a prescription: the serial killer nurse

Amy, a caring nurse and single mother, suffers from a serious heart condition and finds herself again pushed to the limit from exhausting night shifts in the intensive care unit where he works. Luckily, she ends up finding help from a caring and empathetic new colleague, Charlie. Spending long nights together in the hospital, the two healthcare workers form a strong and devoted friendship. For the first time in years, Amy begins to believe in a future for herself and her daughters. However, when a mysterious string of dead patients sparks an investigation that names Charlie as her prime suspect, Amy is forced to risk her life and the safety of her children to uncover the truth.

Murders without a prescription is a suspense thriller based on the true story of Charles Cullen, a nurse accused of killing dozens of patients in various American hospitals. The film follows the investigation of a fellow nurse and detectives to stop Cullen before he claims more victims.

Lost in the Arctic follows the incredible (but very real) story of two Danish explorers, Ejnar Mikkelsen and Iver Iversen, who, 1909, an attempt to demonstrate that Greenland is a single and indivisible island. They thus contested the United States’ claims to part of the territory.

Battling extreme weather, they find themselves isolated in the Arctic, facing starvation, injury and… follyAnd this, for two years. The film notably stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, well known for his role as Jaime Lannister in game of Thrones. The film immerses us in a frozen desert, as inhospitable as it is sublime.
