For this mild (but still a little cold) month of April, we have prepared a selection of our 10 favorite books for the little ones. Read alone for older children or with you at bedtime!
Operation Sissy, from 5 years
The epic story of a chicken who is afraid of everything, written by Lu Fraser and illustrated by Sarah Warburton, all published by Little Urban. Marge, a real sissy who is afraid of her shadow, does not hesitate to chase a sheep thief in the middle of the night, aboard a tractor. It’s funny, it’s good, it’s really cute, we really liked it.

Wherever I am, for 4 years
Little crush on Wherever I am, by Annelise Heurtier, illustrated by Anne-Sophie Lanquetin and published by Casterman. The very touching story of a little boy and his grandfather, who share simple and beautiful moments and create lasting memories. A beautiful work to address the mourning of grandparents, with great tenderness and poetry.

My two homes, for 4 years
A very nice book to approach alternation with the little ones affected by the separation of their parent. In My two houses by Amélie Antoine, illustrated by Édith Chambon and published by Editions Casterman, we discover the life of a little girl when she spends the week with her mother and when she spends the week with her father. It’s sweet, well written, perfectly accessible to kids going through this, with a lot of emotion.

Everything that happened before your arrival, starting from the age of 4
Splendid album by Yael Frankel, published by Obriart, winner of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in 2023. The story tells of a little girl’s impatience in the face of her mother’s growing belly as she waits for her future little brother or sister. The minimalist drawings imitate those of a child, and share moments of life and waiting, with great tenderness.

The hut under the cherry tree, from 5 years
Second favorite of this selection with The hut under the cherry tree by Céline Claire, illustrated by Annick Masson and published by Père Castor de Flammarion Jeunesse. The story tells of the colorful creation of a garden shed by two cousins, Mia and Pablo. They carry boxes, build fences, build the most beautiful cabins. But to the detriment of those who were there before! A real little story that tastes of childhood, a bit like a slightly sour strawberry candy. We love.

Nana and Nini’s holidays, from 7 years old
A beautiful comic by Margot Farnoux, published by Biscoto editions. A perfect touch of madness to prepare for future summer holidays, discovering the adventures of the two tornadoes Nana and Nini on holiday with their grandmother. Hot little girls, but terrible, and who are the queens of bullshit.

Fox, the letter and the horrible ones, from 5 years
A new sequel to the fox’s adventures, which we love! After Fox, Marcel and the chickens, Fox and little Georges, Fox, the wolf and Kiki, we welcome this new work by Thibault Prugne (published by Éditions Margot) with evident joy. And as always, it’s funny, okay, we laugh as we follow the adventures of this fox like no other, who learns to challenge prejudices. A true favorite as always, a gem!

Hi Anita, 1 year ago
This work, written by Gwendoline Raisson, illustrated by Ilheim Abdel-Jelil and published by Pastel Editions, is a true beauty. For the little ones, Hi Anita it’s a great introduction to children’s books, to show them the world around them. It’s sweet, terribly poetic and warms the heart like a ray of spring sunshine.

Sitter Elephante, from 4 years
A not so recent work – it was published in August 2023 – from the family series by Sandra Le Guen and Maurèen Pavoinec, published by Little Urban. The story of an elephant who takes care of two small children and entertains them during the absence of their parents. The illustrations are sublime, the lines are beautiful and the characters captivating, it is, once again, flawless.

Shells and what they hide, from 2 years old
Perfect for little hands who like to lift the flaps, Shells and what they hide, written by Helen Scales, illustrated by Sonia Pulido and published by Phaidon, allows you to understand, from an early age, the links between objects present in nature and the environment. Instructive, educational and particularly well illustrated, it is a pleasure for the little ones and for those who read this great book to them.
