But it also follows Awa, almost eight months pregnant, sleeping in RER stations and in the basements of buildings. She has never been able to use emergency accommodation, even though she also has priority.

600 fewer places in one year in the 115 of Seine-Saint-Denis

How to explain this situation? A waste of space in reception centres. In June 2023, the 115 of Seine-Saint-Denis could accommodate 12,200 people every night. But the State has asked to lower this figure to 10,110, the organization reports to our nuns Mediapart. A figure that is slightly increasing, given that 115 can currently accommodate 11,600 people. A loss of 600 places in a year, which increases waiting times to get a place.


Furthermore, the regional health agency of Île-de-France notes from the investigative magazine a “increase in this type of situation”in particular at the end of 2023: “For several weeks, with a total of over sixty situations, putting healthcare facilities and their staff in great difficulty”.

For its part, the Ministry of Construction reports this Mediapart that in Seine-Saint-Denis, “Since 2017, the state-funded accommodation offering has increased by 6,800 places to meet the needs expressed in the region. This is an increase of +56%”. There are almost 18,000 places available in the department, of which 800 are reserved for pregnant women or women leaving maternity wards.
